Healthiest Summertime Produce

A+ A- Fruits and Veggies

Summertime means that fresh produce is abundant! We recommend making sure that you take in the vitamins and minerals contained in produce all year round, but summer makes it easier and less expensive to eat healthy.

In addition to keeping your body healthy, fresh produce is great for your teeth, gums, and other soft tissues of the mouth. Fruits and vegetables can also reduce your risk of many different kinds of cancer, including oral cancer.

Healthy Summer Produce

Below are a few of the summertime fruits and veggies that are best for your health:

  • Apples – Apples are natural teeth whiteners, so you can ditch the pricey whitening strips. In addition, the act of biting and chewing on an apple will stimulate the production of saliva, which will wash away bacteria. Lastly, apples have been linked to a lowered risk of heart disease.
  • Strawberries – There’s a reason why strawberries are known as a superfood. It’s because they’re packed with nutrients, antioxidants, and vitamin C, which can even help prevent cancer. Additionally, strawberries are great for your eyes and can help regulate blood pressure.
  • Watermelon – Watermelons are around 92% water! This will dilute the sugar content and increase saliva production. Also, eating any type of food high in water content means that you’ll feel fuller on fewer calories, aiding in weight loss. Lastly, watermelon will help keep you hydrated in the warm, active summer months.
  • Tomatoes – Lastly, tomatoes are incredibly high in lycopene. They’re true cancer warriors and contain antioxidants like vitamins A and C, and are also able to help protect your skin from summer sunburns.
