Dental bonding is a procedure in which a durable plastic material, called resin, is matched to the color of the tooth and then applied to the tooth and hardened with a special light. This light then bonds the material to the tooth!

This procedure is usually used for cosmetic reasons, since it is a fast and easy way to improve the appearance of your smile! It can also be used as a filling to repair decayed teeth, to close spaces between teeth, and to protect the root of a tooth in the event of receding gums.

What to expect during a bonding procedure

The surface of your tooth will be roughened up and Dr. Behnaz Raisdana will apply a conditioning liquid. This process helps the resin adhere to the tooth. Next, the tooth-colored resin is applied, molded and smoothed out to the correct shape. A laser or UV light will then be used to harden the material and “bond” it to the tooth! Lastly, once the resin has hardened, it will be trimmed, shaped and polished to match the rest of the tooth’s surface.

This procedure usually only takes about 30-45 minutes and, unless you’re having a filling placed into a decayed tooth, you shouldn’t need any anesthesia!
