Managing Dental Anxiety

Dental anxiety is very real and is suffered by a staggering amount of Americans. In fact, we have patients whose dental anxiety keep them from seeking treatment for tooth pain until they can hardly bear it any longer! Unfortunately, the wait to seek dental help could make the treatment more costly and painful (and thus, more anxiety-inducing) that it would have been if you’d come it at the first sign of trouble!

How To Manage Dental Anxiety

Some common methods of managing dental anxiety include:

  • Distraction – Putting on headphones and listening to some soothing music or an audio book can provide enough of a distraction to calm your nerves.
  • Patient Education – Knowing what to expect from your procedure can make it a much less scary and daunting experience. Fear of the unknown is a major part of dental anxiety.
  • Sedation Therapy – If all else fails, sedation therapy methods can greatly reduce your anxiety and stress.
