Setting Oral Hygiene Resolutions for Your Family

A+ A- Mother and Daughter brushing

Many people set New Year’s resolutions, but only around 8% of people actually follow through. One problem could be the way that resolutions are approached or that they may be too unrealistic. Here at Auburn Family Dental, we recommend adding in a few oral hygiene goals for your family when you’re considering your New Year’s resolutions.

Oral Hygiene Resolutions

Below are 3 suggestions for New Year’s resolutions that, with a little time and effort, will be easy to keep and can benefit your health as well as that of your family:

  • Brush & Floss – Set a goal for your family to brush at least twice a day for two minutes at a time. You should be using a soft-bristled brush and fluoride toothpaste to help prevent dental cavities. Additionally, it’s important to floss at least once a day. If you’re not used to flossing, your gums may bleed initially, but stick with it to achieve healthy gum tissue.
  • Quit Smoking – Use of tobacco products such as smoking cigarettes and chewing tobacco are the main causes of gum disease here in the US. Kicking this habit will not only benefit your dental health and prevent oral cancer but will also improve your overall health as well.
  • Visit the Dentist – According to the American Dental Association, you and your family should be visiting the dentist every six months for a dental cleaning and an exam. This will also allow us to catch any potential dental problems early on when they’re easier and less expensive to treat.

To schedule an appointment for your family to receive dental cleanings and exams, please contact Auburn Family Dental. You’ll be able to start the new year off with a healthy, clean slate and a beautiful smile that’s easy to maintain. Our family dental office is located here in Wichita, KS.
