Thanksgiving Favorites That Are Great For Your Teeth

A+ A- Family around Thanksgiving dinner

Thanksgiving is almost here, which means we’re all gearing up for a delicious dinner as well as time spent with family and friends. Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for all that we have, and that includes being thankful for our teeth and all they do for us! As it turns out, many of our favorite Thanksgiving dishes are actually healthy for your teeth as well!

Tooth-Friendly Thanksgiving Foods

When you’re wondering what Thanksgiving foods are best for your teeth, just remember the three P’s:

  • Pumpkin – Pumpkins are full of vitamin A, fiber, and potassium. All three of these are great for your teeth, especially vitamin A, which strengthens tooth enamel. Additionally, pumpkin seeds contain magnesium, which can help make your teeth less vulnerable to dental cavities. This means that you shouldn’t feel guilty about having a slice or two of pumpkin pie!
  • Protein – The star of the Thanksgiving feast, the turkey, is full of protein! Protein is healthy for both your body and your teeth. This is because the protein mixes with vitamin D and calcium to help create strong bones and teeth.
  • Produce – Lastly, while the side dishes don’t get as much love as they should, they’re great for your teeth. Thanksgiving staples such as sweet potatoes, carrots, asparagus, and collard greens are all chock full of tons of vitamins and minerals. Go nuts on the healthy produce dishes!
