Taking good care of your teeth and maintaining a healthy smile is a job that lasts a lifetime. Luckily, we can benefit from a number of tools that make this job much easier. Making sure you have the 4 essential dental health tools is a very important part of this.

4 Important Dental Hygiene Tools

Below are the 4 most vital tools for dental health:

  1. Toothbrush – Make sure the head of your toothbrush is small enough to fit around the large molars and that you can comfortably grip the handle. Change your toothbrush every 3-4 months or after getting over an illness like the flu.
  2. Toothpaste – Fluoride toothpaste has been recommended to help keep cavities at bay. When trying to find the right toothpaste, make sure you avoid abrasives and keep an eye out for the ADA’s seal of approval to make sure the toothpaste is effective.
  3. Floss – Brushing alone can only clean around a third of your teeth’s surface area. The spaces between the teeth remain unclean! To make sure that each surface of your tooth is clean, make sure you’re flossing at least once a day.
  4. Water – Lastly, water is an important tool in a lot of ways. Water makes sure that food debris and plaque are washed away and promotes saliva production. Saliva is a critical part of keeping the mouth clean and maintaining a good pH balance in the mouth.

When purchasing dental healthcare products, make sure you find the ADA’s (American Dental Association) seal of approval! The ADA’s rigorous testing procedure ensures that your product has been proven to work.

To prevent dental cavities and gum disease, make sure you’re brushing at least twice a day for two minutes, flossing every day, and visiting Auburn Family Dental every six months for a dental cleaning and an exam. To make your appointment, please contact our Wichita, Kansas dental office today.
