A Healthy Diet Improves Dental Health

A+ A- A bowl of salad with vegetables in it

The most common dental diseases are tooth decay and gingivitis. These are also the two simplest dental diseases to prevent! Practicing good at-home oral hygiene habits such as brushing twice a day and flossing daily can help prevent these diseases, but your diet also plays an important role.

Eating a healthy diet makes you less vulnerable to dental cavities, tooth decay, and gum disease and has also been shown to boost the immune system. Maintaining a healthy diet provides your body with the proper vitamins and nutrients, improving your dental and overall health.

A Proper Diet for Healthy Teeth

Below are a few tips to keep in mind when planning your balanced diet:

  • Keep your sugary treats to a minimum
  • Drink plenty of water and make sure to stay hydrated
  • Focus on lean meats, whole grains, vegetables, and healthy fats
  • Avoid meals high in acid or snacks that contain large amounts of salt or sodium
  • Limit the number of sugary beverages you drink, including soda and energy drinks
