5 Tips To Make Holiday Traveling Easier

A+ A- Woman shopping and smiling

If you’re traveling during this holiday season, you need to be prepared for a little stress and chaos. Holidays are one of the busiest travel times of the year, resulting in crowded buses and trains, stand-still traffic, and long airport lines. It’s hard to feel any holiday joy with all of these anxiety-inducing situations!

Tips For Easier Holiday Travel

Below are 5 tips on how to survive traveling during the holiday season:

  • Do research – If you’re driving to your destination, research any expected traffic delays, and have an alternate route prepared just in case. You should also know where the rest stops are, and factor in the time it would take to stop at them. If you’re flying, make sure you know your airline’s restrictions beforehand, in order to pack appropriately.
  • Find travel apps – There are many different apps that can let you know about any flight status changes, updates on any flight or traffic delays, and can help with managing your baggage numbers. Other apps can estimate how long you can expect to spend in the security line, point you toward the cheapest gas stations and hotels, and find the cleanest rest stops on the road.
  • Don’t over-pack – If you can manage it, try to avoid checking any bags. This will prevent you from having to wait for your luggage or risk your bags getting lost.
  • Bring snacks – It’s smart to stay fueled up and energized when traveling. If you get hungry and frustrated, you may end up taking a wrong turn or standing in the wrong line. Airport food isn’t cheap, so this is also a great way to save money while traveling.
  • Plan for the unexpected – No matter how prepared you are, you’ll probably encounter something unexpected. Leave extra time between connecting flights, pack snow tires in snowy weather, and make sure you have provisions in case the car breaks down or you get stranded. Better safe than sorry!
