Caring for Your Orthodontic Braces While Traveling

A+ A- An image of the ocean with the words vacation written in the sand on the beach

If you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment, odds are good that you’ll have to travel at some point with them on! When you do travel with braces, there are a few things you should plan to take with you while you’re away. These items include:

  • A travel toothbrush
  • Fluoride toothpaste
  • Floss or interdental brushes
  • Travel-sized mouthwash
  • Orthodontic wax for protruding wires

It’s smart to have a bag dedicated solely to your oral hygiene products to keep them well organized and sanitary.

What to Avoid on Vacation

Below are a few snacks to avoid while traveling. Keep these dangerous snacks off of the road trip snack list!

  • Nuts, including cashews, almonds, and peanuts
  • Sticky, chewy, or gummy food
  • Hard candies or pretzels
  • Hard bagels or rolls
  • Biting into whole fruit – cut into wedges first

Just because you’re on a vacation doesn’t mean you can take a break from your oral hygiene routine! Make sure you’re still brushing at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, flossing every day, and swishing with water after meals.
