How To Know If You Need New Dentures

A+ A- Upper Dentures being held

Dentures are artificial tooth replacements for natural teeth that have been lost or pulled. Most patients believe that their dentures will last forever, but this is not really the case. In reality, dentures should be replaced around every 5-10 years depending on the type of denture you have and how well it’s taken care of.

As your jaw and facial bones change over time, your dentures won’t be able to change with them. Because of this, you’ll need to be fitted for new ones.

Do I Need A Denture Replacement?

Below are a few of the signs that it may be time to get your dentures checked:

  • Trouble chewing or speaking normally
  • Headaches or pain in the ear, neck, or jaws
  • Dentures that become discolored or have a foul odor
  • Loosening dentures, especially if they fall out when eating or talking
  • Changes in facial features, such as thinning lips or a sagging mouth
  • Irritated, reddened, or sore gums

Here at Auburn Family Dental, it’s important to us that your dentures are comfortable, and that you feel confident when wearing them. We know how important your smile is to you, which means it’s important to us as well.

If you’re experiencing the above symptoms or if your dentures are older than 5-10 years, please contact Auburn Family Dental today. Our dental office is located in beautiful Wichita, KS.
