Valentine Chocolate Can Be Good For Your Health

A+ A- Chocolate

If you’re a chocolate lover, this should be music to your ears – chocolate has a few important health benefits! With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, you should be looking forward to your box of chocolates more than ever. Along with bouquets of flowers, heart-shaped boxes of chocolates are one of the most popular Valentine’s Day gifts. In fact, people spend around $1 billion on V-Day chocolate every year!

When it comes to the health of your teeth, chocolate isn’t the worst sweet treat to indulge in. This doesn’t mean you should be indulging excessively, but dentists prefer chocolate to stickier candy like caramels, or hard candies, which can crack or damage the teeth.

Health Benefits Of Chocolate

Below are a few of the health benefits chocolate can provide:

  • Chocolate can boost your brain power, making you smarter
  • Dark chocolate can improve your heart health
  • Researchers are still studying this, but chocolate may help fight diabetes
  • Chocolate has been linked to a decreased risk of heart disease and stroke
  • Chocolate melts more quickly in the mouth, meaning it won’t spend as much time on the teeth as sticker candies – this means chocolate doesn’t have the time to cause as many cavities

Chocolate does have a few health benefits, but it still contains quite a bit of sugar. It’s still important to practice good oral hygiene habits, such as brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and visiting Auburn Family Dental every 6 months for a dental checkup.
